As a Harp Major at IVC, you have access to both a pedal harp and a lever harp for applied lessons, orchestra, and other ensemble rehearsals, as well as on-campus personal practice.
In addition, you can enjoy our brand new Music Building and Recital Hall!
In applied lessons, we work together to improve your technique while strengthening your innate musicality; lessons feature a curriculum of standard classical repertoire with the option of additional non-classical pieces (recent examples include "Always With Me" from Spirited Away, "A Town With An Ocean View" from Kiki's Delivery Service, and Taylor Swift's "My Tears Ricochet."
The IVC Harp Studio includes a supportive group of students and alumni, along with a dedicated music faculty eager to help students reach their harp goals.
IVC Harp Alumni go on to complete Harp Performance degrees at local universities, as well as to pursue other interests and fields.
- The IVC Orchestra has several concerts each semester, giving you credible experience with traditional orchestral harp parts as well as fun pieces like music from Disney's Frozen.
- The Irvine Valley Student Harp Ensemble has varying projects of classical and popular music, including David Ice's Coraline Suite, a harp quartet arrangement of music from the stop-motion animated movie Coraline.
- Masterclasses with renown harpists, including Heidi Lehwalder, Caroline Lizotte, Ann Marie Liss, and Elisa Torres.
- ASTA CAP Evaluations, where IVC students consistently pass their level exams with honors and distinction for memory.
- Solo performances in a variety of settings to increase your confidence and allow you to share your talent with welcoming audiences.
-IVC Promise: First-time college students who are California residents, and who enroll full-time, are eligible for the IVC Promise. This program gives students two years of free tuition (enrollment fees) at IVC.
- IVC Music AA-T: The IVC Music Associate of Arts degree-for-transfer is one of the UC and CSU Guaranteed Acceptance programs, giving students a competitive edge when transferring to specific UC and CSU schools, including UCI.
- Double-Major: Not sure if music is the degree you're ready to commit to yet? Have other goals but still love to play? Consider double-majoring. Several IVC Harp students have taken this path successfully, finding it to be a rewarding way to maintain their connection to the harp while also satisfying their interests in other disciplines.
- Adult Students wanting to study the harp on a serious level are welcome to apply!
- Harp teachers wanting to focus on harp pedagogy are especially encouraged to apply!
To set up an audition, use the contact page on this site.
The auditions for music majors at IVC help the music faculty assess how to best help you build your skills and reach your dreams.
You are welcome to choose any solo piece you would like to play, classical or non-classical, pedal or lever harp.
The IVC harps are available for auditions so you do not need to bring your own harp to audition or to be a Harp Major at IVC.
