About The Program

In the CSULA Department of Music you can work, play and explore the great cultural elements that make life in the city of Los Angeles so vibrant and cutting edge. Join our internationally-recognized faculty who will expose you to the musical arts, past and present, that shape and contextualize our lives. You will study with fellow students who challenge you in an environment designed to sustain your creativity and talent.


  • Develop your skills through orchestra, wind symphony, mariachi, and commercial music ensembles
  • Strengthen your leadership style as a musician through chamber music, harp ensemble, and class-guided community outreach
  • Hone your craft as a classical harpist through applied lessons, regular studio class, as well as masterclasses with internationally-recognized guest harpists
  • Improve your performance through opportunities to play on and off campus in solo and group capacities
  • Broaden your musical knowledge by taking courses on women in music, music in world culture, roots of rock, career planning, composition, and more. Harp majors are also eligible for the Creativity In Music minor which explores arranging, recording arts, and more.
  • Create connections with a community of friendly, supportive harpists who share your love of the instrument
